Use the currency you will spend
Prepare the budget in your destination’s local currency first. Record the exchange rate and date when estimating the Pakistani rupee equivalent. Keep a margin for currency movements and unexpected costs.
Include the complete cost
| Cost category | Items to research |
|---|---|
| Study | Tuition, compulsory student fees, books, equipment, and course materials. |
| Monthly living | Rent, bills, food, local transport, phone, and personal expenses. |
| Before departure | Required tests, application costs, translations, travel, and official charges. |
| Arrival | Housing deposit, temporary accommodation, bedding, and initial setup. |
| Contingency | An emergency reserve appropriate to your circumstances. |
Separate confirmed funding from possibilities
Keep awarded scholarships and available funds in one column, and pending scholarship applications in another. Do not build an essential budget around an award you have not received or income you have not secured.
Planning formula: tuition + living costs for the full study period + one-off costs + contingency − confirmed funding.
Check the source of every estimate
Use the university’s current fee schedule and actual accommodation options. Country averages are useful for orientation but may not reflect your course, city, or lifestyle. Official visa funding rules are a separate check and can change.
Continue your research
Check the destination and provider’s official instructions for your own course.
